Archives Assistant

CBHC Archives Assistant is responsible for supporting the management of the CBHC Permanent Collection and for the overall guest experience. They ensure that all aspects of the experience meet or exceed guest expectations (service, security, cleanliness, etc.). Archives Assistant is a member of the CBHC Flight Crew. Flight Crew are progressively trained in all operational areas of CBHC and are assigned an area of work daily, with the expectation of cross-over and support for all team members. 

 

Summary

In this dynamic role, you’ll be at the heart of handling our precious collection items, making sure each piece is treated with the utmost care according to our specific guidelines.

You’ll also be helping to keep our collections database spick-and-span, updating records to ensure everything’s in tip-top shape following the CBHC’s trusted policies and procedures. Not to mention, you’ll have the important task of keeping our paper records organized and up-to-date.

But it’s not all behind-the-scenes work; you’ll be one of the first friendly faces our guests meet, whether they’re walking through the door or giving us a ring. You’ll be responsible for getting the museum floor ready for action each day and making sure everything’s tucked in tight at close, from flipping the switches on our lights and exhibits to making sure everything’s in perfect order for our visitors.

Maintenance is key in this role, and you’ll be on the lookout for anything amiss, promptly reporting any issues that could affect our guests’ experience or safety to management. Plus, you’ll manage our movie schedule and welcome movie-goers with a smile.

You’ll help keep our building grounds, exhibits, and gift shop looking their best. This includes everything from a bit of weeding to general tidying. You’ll also be a fount of knowledge for our visitors, ready to answer their questions about our displays, and you might even get the chance to lead tours.

You’ll also be our go-to person for information on events, products, and everything our gift shop has to offer, not to mention handling guest transactions and keeping the finances in check at the end of your shift.

Your role extends to lending a hand with events and fundraisers, from setting up to the final tear-down, and you’ll even whip up snacks and beverages for our café. And, of course, there are always those extra tasks that pop up, there is never a dull moment at the CBHC

Job Specifications

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Strong computer skills, previous experience using a database would be an asset. 
  • Proven self-starter capable of working in a team and independently. 
  • Demonstrated innovation and creativity in solving challenges. 
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to adhere to policies and procedures. 
  • Demonstrated use of good judgement in challenging situations. 
  • Ability to lift up to 40lbs. 

Wages & Requirements

These positions are supported by Canada Summer Jobs. 

This a summer job, subject to approved funding. You must be a student or returning student, and under the age of 30 to be eligible. One position is part-time. The other position is full-time – you must be able to work a minimum of 35 hours per week. International Students are not eligible under the funding guidelines for this position. The anticipated start date is late May – early June with employment for 8-12 weeks.

One part-time position 20 hours per week
One full-time position 35+ hours per week
Wages $16.55/hr
