Hangar Time at CBHC

Hangar Time at the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre

February 9, 2010 - The Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre (CBHC) will be hosting Hangar Time, a special half-price admission day on Saturday, February 20th from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm in conjunction with the Ontario Heritage Trust’s History Week 2010.

This year’s Heritage Week theme is “Our Changing Landscape”, offering communities across the province the opportunity to reflect on how their built and natural environments have changed over time. The CBHC occupies the former Ontario Provincial Air Service hangar, a historic building dating to 1924 that was the site of many pivotal developments in bush flying and forest fire fighting that shaped the region, the province and the nation.

Along with half-price admission for all ages, visitors will be offered a special handbill detailing the history of the CBHC and its home.

The Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre (CBHC) is a unique centre devoted to preserving the history of Bush Flying and Forest Protection in Canada. Volunteer members actively acquire, restore, preserve and display floatplanes, bushplanes, waterbombers, and forest firefighting equipment along with other aviation and forestry-related artifacts in order to celebrate the achievements of Canada's aviation and forest fire fighting pioneers. Thousands of people have had the pleasure of learning of the contribution of bush pilots and these machines to life in Northern Canada.

The CBHC is located at 50 Pim Street in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario (www.bushplane.com). The Centre boasts one of Canada’s most intriguing collections of airplanes and artifacts, including the CF-OBS, the first production Beaver manufactured by de Havilland Canada. The Centre is open daily 9am to 6pm from mid-May to mid-October and from 10am to 4pm during the rest of the year.
