CANADIAN BUSHPLANE HERITAGE CENTRE OPENS A NEW THEATRE
Feel the Excitement with Wildfires! A Firefighting Adventure in 3D
OPENING NOVEMBER 26, 2011
SAULT STE. MARIE, ON - Wildfires! A Firefighting Adventure in 3D, takes you into the heart of a major forest fire to give you a close-up and unforgettable look at how fires are created and ultimately controlled and how scientific research and practical experience have combined to develop effective forest fire fighting techniques used today. This state of the art theatre uses 3D film techniques combined with stimulating seats and special wind, water and smoke effects to explore the science of fire behaviour and firefighting. Wildfires! was produced in partnership with Science North.
At the centre of the film are the courageous efforts of the stars of the show – firefighters and pilots from the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources’ Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services section – and the equipment and knowledge they use to battle this incredible force of nature.
“The fire in this film was the biggest forest fire in Ontario in nearly a decade, and the first big fire of a very active summer. Not since 1922 have forest fires claimed as much area in the province,” says Science North Director of Large Format Films, David Lickley. “This was a massive fire, and we were very fortunate to be able to film at very close range, the kinds of air and ground work fire fighters do under extraordinary conditions. Wildfires! provides visitors with the rare opportunity to ride in a waterbomber and experience the intensity of a raging inferno that destroys everything in its path,. ”
“Working in collaboration with the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre in Sault Ste. Marie, and with the full support of the Ministry of Natural Resources, has many positive outcomes,” says Science North CEO Guy Labine. “Not only do these projects help develop a broader tourism product in Northern Ontario, they offer visitors the chance to see the advanced technology used to protect one of our most valuable natural resources.”
Wildfires! A Firefighting Adventure in 3D is partially funded by the Northern Ontario Heritage Foundation Corporation, in partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and supported by the Canada-Ontario Infrastructure Stimulus Fund.
Visitors to the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre can still enjoy our other Feature Presentations; ‘Bush Angels’ in our Ranger Theatre and ‘Wings Over The North’ in our Object Theatre.
