The land-based Tracker waterbombers were surplus ant-submarine aircraft off of the scrapped aircraft carrier HMCS Bonaventure. They were converted by the Air Branch, in conjunction with Field Aviation Limited, at the Sault Ste. Marie hangar to include a state-of-the-art waterbombing, chemical retardent tank and release system and each aircraft could deliver 800 gallons of water or fire retardant.
